Mass evacuations, flooding, as Saudel nears Vietnam

Authorities rushed to evacuate residents from flooded locales across Vietnam on Wednesday (October 21) as tropical storm Saudel drew closer to the Southeast Asian nation, local media reported.

Days of heavy rains and floods have already killed at least 111 people, with 22 still missing, leaving authorities scrambling to make emergency preparations as another storm approaches.

Central Vietnam, already reeling from its most severe flooding in two decades, is bracing for tropical storm Saudel, a weather event which has lashed the Philippines. Saudel is expected to hit the country at full strength on Saturday (October 24) Vietnam's weather agency said.
