Scientists surveyed the delta of volcanic lava protruding into the sea off La Palma in Spain’s Canary Islands on Wednesday, October 6.
Video shared by the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute (Involcan) shows the dark mass at 3 pm local time on Wednesday, according to the tweet.
Involcan said they were analyzing aerosol samples collected from “the first day the lava reached the sea” in hopes they could give “information on the chemistry and acidity of the plume”.
More than 420 hectares and 726 buildings had been affected by the volcano’s eruption as of Tuesday, according to La Palma council. Credit: Involcan via Storyful
