Massive blaze breaks out in Scots flat as six injured

Six people have been injured after a roaring inferno has engulfed a flat during an early morning blaze as hero firefighters raced to the scene.

The fire broke out at a flat on Saughton Mains in Edinburgh shortly before 6am on September 28 with crews still battling the blaze hours later.

Shocking footage shows huge ferocious flames destroying the first-floor property with several fire engines outside. Crews remained at the scene at 9am. The cause of the fire is currently known and there are six confirmed casualties.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at around 5.54am. Three pumps and a height appliance initially attended but the incident was escalated with six pump appliances responding to the scene.

"Six casualties were reported with one person taken to hospital for further treatment. The fire was extinguished and one appliance remains on site but is not actively working."
