Massive crowds flock to Edinburgh Meadows Festival as mini-heatwave hits city

Hundreds of locals gathered at an Edinburgh beauty spot on Saturday as the Meadows Festival got underway.

The annual festival takes place in the first weekend of June, and has done since 1974 and brings live performances, family activities, a dog show and more to the Meadows over June 1 and 2.

Massive crowds were seen gathering at the park on Saturday to make the most of the fun-filled event as well as taking in the summer rays.

Sunshine and warmer weather with temperatures as high as 21C arrived in Edinburgh on Saturday bringing in some well needed warmer weather.

Across the weekend, the Totally Sound Futures Stage will be showcasing young music makers of Edinburgh. Elsewhere, residents who are proud of their pooches will be able to take party in the dog show on Sunday at 12.30pm.

There will also be tasty food stalls and local retailers on hand. Families can get involved with activities like watercolour painting, family yoga and other exercise classes. Local bands will also be performing at the Tonegarden Stage.

Organisers for the Meadows Festival said: "Established in 1974 the Meadows Festival has been run on the first weekend of June almost every year since.

"Over the past 50 years the festival has changed and the event now boasts one of the UK’s largest community festivals with the biggest outdoor market in Edinburgh and something for all ages. From the Children and Families’ Area, to the Dog Show, Performance Area, Totally Sound Futures Stage showcasing local youth music, and the Main Stage with local artists.
