Massive Dust Cloud Envelops South Dakota Farm

A farm near Canastota, South Dakota, was enveloped by an enormous dust storm that rolled through the state, as seen in footage from May 12.

Governor Kristi Noem told local media the storm caused one fatality, but did not provide any details.

Ruth Harper Gough was attending a tennis tournament when it was cancelled due to the impending storm. She told Storyful she attempted to outrun the storm and drive home, capturing this footage on the way, but the dust eventually caught up with her.

In a Facebook post she wrote,“Our kids said they felt like we were in the middle of an epic Star Wars movie while we sheltered in place under the bridge and watched all kinds of things flying all around us.” Credit: Ruth Harper Gough via Storyful
