Grey’s Anatomy has been running for a LONG TIME. It premiered waaaay back in 2005 and has been running for 15 seasons. So, you don’t need to have been on the receiving end of some fairly serious head trauma (as depicted in season 2 episode ‘Damage Case’) to have completely forgotten about some of the major, major star cameos.

We’ve shoved some of our favourites into the back of our feature ambulance, and will now rush them to your laptop – STAT.

Christina Ricci - Hannah Davies, Season 2

Ricci appeared in two tension-filled REM-referencing episodes of Grey’s, ‘It's the End of the World’ and ‘As We Know It'. The two-parter saw Ricci pop up as a paramedic who used her hand to tamponade a wound that turned out to be filled with a BOMB.

What is this, Grey’s Anatomy or The Dark Knight? Whatever, Ricci’s Hannah ultimately saved the day (with help from Meredith) and got a hug from Mindy for her troubles.

Elisabeth Moss - Nina Rogerson, Season 3

Mad Men / The Handmaid’s Tale star Moss played Nina Rogerson, a visitor to the hospital with her ill mother, Cathy, who had a rare condition that caused bone to grow against any injuries. Nina was super over-protective of Cathy, shouting at anyone who tried to help her mum, as Nina felt they could potentially hurt her.

Told that her mum would die if she didn’t receive risky surgery, Nina convinced her to go ahead – only for Cathy to die on the operating table. Nina was understandably devastated, with Moss’ emotional journey across the episode creating a powerhouse performance.

Seth Green - Nick Hanscom, Season 4

If you’re squeamish, look away now. Seth Green’s Nick Hanscom came in with a tumour attached to his neck, but when it was removed during routine surgery it caused a SIGNIFICANT amount of bleeding. Like, a truly gross amount. Seriously, it went everywhere.

We’re not sure if it was an in-joke casting one of the stars of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a bloody neck wound, but either way, Green won’t be back for another cameo – Nick died as the result of his wound over the course of the two-part ‘Crash Into Me.’

John Cho - Marshall Stone, Season 2

Cho was another one-and-done star, so you’d be forgiven for forgetting he was on the show, especially as the episode itself – ‘Damage Case’ – wasn’t especially memorable.

Cho’s Marshall Stone was a dedicated surgical intern who caused an accident when he fell asleep while driving, after working too many hours at the hospital.

Concussion from the accident affected his memory, but worse was to come – one of the victims of the accident, Melanie Reynolds, ended up dying as a result of her wounds, and Stone had to apologise to her parents for his tragic mistake.

Cho’s performance is the highlight of an underwhelming episode, demonstrating the skills that would lead to major 2019 Oscar buzz for his performance in Searching this year.

Sarah Paulson - Ellis Grey, Season 6

Sarah Paulson’s cameo is unique on this list, in that she didn’t play an original character. Instead, she appeared in flashback episode ‘The Time Warp’ as Ellis Grey, the mother of Meredith Grey.

But, you know, it’s Sarah Paulson, so of course she was utterly brilliant in the role, making us wish she could have fit a recurring character into her busy schedule back in 2010.

Millie Bobby Brown - Ruby, season 11

A year before Millie Bobby Brown would became a household name following her turn as Eleven on Netflix’s Stranger Things, the actress was starring in one of the most memorable Grey’s Anatomy episodes, ‘I Feel the Earth Move.’

In it, Brown’s Ruby was forced to get medical guidance over the phone, following her mum’s accident in a cabin in the middle of nowhere.

Guided by Owen, Ruby went through a series of medical steps to help keep her mum alive until the team were able to locate them, sending a helicopter to get the pair to hospital.
