Usually the only shocks on Masterchef come when Gregg Wallace doesn't like a dessert.

However, last night's (April 12) episode created a backlash from viewers after contestant Visha served up RAW chicken during the Marketplace Challenge, but still didn't leave the competition.

Visha was intended to deliver a chicken leg with a garlic and chilli paste, alongside sides of lentils and spiced fondant potatoes.

Sounds delicious, shame about the side of Salmonella.

"Your flavours are lovely. However that whole thing is going to be ruined if you serve us an undercooked chicken," Gregg explained.

And yet, it wasn't ruined enough for John Torode and Gregg to not put Visha through to the next round, with her ultimately going through to the quarter-final at the end of the episode.

Instead, John and Gregg took offence to someone mixing prawns and oats (also a bit wrong), but viewers just couldn't believe that raw chicken went through.

Visha was joined by Lindsey and Richard in getting through to the quarter-finals, with Lawrentino and Nathan narrowly missing out on a place after their dishes failed to impress the guest judges.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the one thing that John and Gregg can't comment on in Masterchef and use against the contestants is the food temperature.

Masterchef continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
