Two London chefs who appeared on MasterChef: The Professionals are organising a charity run in honour of their fellow contestant Matt Campbell.

Campbell tragically passed away after collapsing at the 22.5 mile mark of the London Marathon last Sunday.

Jamie Park, head chef at The Frog E1, and Tom Peters, senior sous chef at Roux at Parliament Square are asking people to join them this Sunday to “finish” the final 3.7 miles of the marathon.

Park and Peters are asking participants to donate to Matt Campbell’s JustGiving page, which has currently raised over £170,000 for the Brathay Trust. Campbell was running in memory of his father, Martin Campbell, who passed away in 2016.

The two chefs became friends with Campbell after meeting on the BBC show last year. Park described Campbell as “the sort of guy you like from the first day you meet him” and a chef who was “incredibly clever, creative and conscious about what he was feeding people… people who see the whole picture don’t come along very often.”

Peters, who was running the Marathon with Matt at the weekend, said “I met Matt in the MasterChef kitchen, and something that should have been so competitive and nerve-racking just became so fun, and it was inspiring to work next to such an interesting chef.”

“He was infectious with his passion, not only for cooking but for healthy eating and also running… The 3.7 miles we are running on Sunday is symbolic for Matt, as we’ll be finishing the rest of the marathon course for him. “

Park and Peters are asking people taking part in the #MilesForMatt run to meet at Shadwell station at 2pm on Sunday April 29.
