'Wonderful': Gregg Wallace and John Torode: Twitter/ John Torode

Masterchef’s John Torode has tweeted a selfie with the “wonderful” Gregg Wallace days after claiming they have never been friends.

Torode, 51, said recently that despite working together they have never been to each other’s houses and rarely socialise while filming.

But he appeared to shut down any notions of animosity by posting a selfie on Twitter with Wallace, 52.

He captioned the image: “A lovely day spent with the wonderful @GreggAWallace . love a newspaper #MasterChefUK.”

Wallace retweeted the picture with the caption: “Just hanging.”

One user commented “Hanging with your 'not friend'?” to which Torode replied with a dancing man emoji: “That's the one.”

The selfie appeared to poke fun at his previous comments about his co-host.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said: “It's funny, we've never been friends.

“We've not been to each other's houses. He's so OCD, he wouldn't know what to do.

“If we go away to somewhere like South Africa, we do things separately.

“If we do go out for a drink, I'll invariably be at one end of a big old table and he'll be at the other.”

He also described how they once had a “massive fight” over a contestant after too many drinks. He said: “We've had a couple of stand-offs over the years ... I've just had to walk away from him.”

The TV duo reportedly met during Torode's early career working at central London restaurant Quaglino's, which served vegetables supplied by Wallace.

They later began presenting and judging the popular BBC cooking series when it was revamped in 2005.

The current series is now three episodes and one quarter-final into the competition.

Masterchef is on BBC2 Friday at 8pm.
