MasterChef fans were left baffled by one contestant’s idea to add a rather unique ingredient to her chocolate mousse.

Branded ‘one hipster idea too far’, wannabe chef Natalie added sweet potato to the dessert during Wednesday’s episode, leaving viewers rather confused.

“Dessert is a chocolate mousse... made with sweet potato" Never has a facial expression changed so much as during that reveal #MasterchefUK,” one shocked fan wrote on Twitter.

Another posted: “Chocolate mousse with sweet potato?? what the chuffing hell?”

Others seemed to think that the bizarre combination was indicative of ‘hipster culture’, with one viewer posting: “#MasterChefUK Who puts sweet potato in a chocolate mousse? That's one hipster idea too far.”

“Sweet potato in your chocolate mouse? Hipster or a step too far? #MasterChef,” added another.

Despite the fact that viewers weren’t too impressed with the dessert, the judges were keen on the dish and put her through to the next round.

But Natalie’s wasn’t the only dessert to rile viewers during Wednesday’s show as Kenny’s panna cotta was branded ‘boring’.

One frustrated viewer posted: “Please ban Panna Cotta & pasta in the final rounds both are so boring!"

Another suggested that panna cotta is “this year’s chocolate fondant”.

The final group of eight cooks will compete on Thursday for a place in the quarter final.
