Mateo Joseph stars for Spain with late winner in Leeds United international round-up

It's been a steady start to the campaign for Leeds United and the first international break represents a great opportunity to take stock. Daniel Farke will continue his work at Thorp Arch with the Whites players not called up for their respective countries as they look to win promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds have had 11 players called for international duty as testament to their bright starts to the season. Some are yet to feature, while others have played a starring role in the first round of international fixtures.

Mateo Joseph - Spain U21s

Mateo Joseph has been one of the bright sparks for Leeds so far this season and he's shown no sign of slowing down. Despite being named on the substitute bench for Spain U21s, he'd claim all the headlines.

The Whites forward came off the bench at Tynecastle and scored the winner against Scotland U21s three minutes later. He made clever run across the box to the front post and found the bottom corner with a deft finish to wrap up the three points.

It takes his goal involvements to four - two goals and two assists - in five games so far this season for both club and country.

Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu & Karl Darlow- Wales

Leeds United's Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu look set for important roles in Wales' new era under Craig Bellamy. The Whites duo played the full 90 minutes of their 0-0 draw with Türkiye in their Nations League clash at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Bellamy's side were the better of the two teams, with Sorba Thomas' goal ruled out for offside, before Baris Alper Yilmaz was given a red card for a poor challenge just after the hour mark.

Whites' Goalkeeper Karl Darlow was named among the substitutes but didn't make it onto the pitch with Danny Ward the number one choice.

Ao Tanaka - Japan

New signing Ao Tanaka came off the bench in the 71st minute during Japan's impressive 7-0 win over China to go top of their World Cup qualifying group.

The hosts were four goals to the good at the time of his introduction, adding another three with Tanaka on the pitch. They're back in action on Tuesday night when they take on Bahrain.

Max Wober - Austria

Despite injury problems in recent weeks, Max Wober played the full 90 minutes of Austria's 1-1 draw with Slovenia. The centre-half had spoken about the pitch being a concern heading into the fixture, but he came through the game unscathed.

Benjamin Sesko gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot, Konrad Laimer equalised just before the hour mark.

Manor Solomon - Israel

A brace from Kevin De Bruyne either side of a Youri Tielemans strike inflicted defeat on Manor Solomon and Israel. The new Leeds United signing saw his country beaten 3-1 by Belgium after starting the game and getting 80 minutes under his belt.

The winger made a bright start to life at Elland Road, impressing on his debut against Hull City and will be back in action for his country in Nations League action on Monday against Italy.

Willy Gnonto - Italy U21s

There was a slight cause for concern for Willy Gnonto after taking a whack during Italy's 7-0 win over San Marino. The Whites forward started the game for the U21s against the European minnows but was taken off at half-time.

As things stand, it appears that his substitution was a precaution with Italy U21s two goals to the good.
