The following article contains discussion of sexual misconduct that some readers may find distressing.

Matt Damon has spoken out about Harvey Weinstein, admitting that he was aware of Gwyneth Paltrow's alleged sexual harassment at the hands of the producer.

Matt, who worked with Gwyneth on The Talented Mr Ripley in the '90s, told Good Morning America (via HuffPost) that although he was aware of the incident, he thought it had been 'handled'.

"I knew the story about Gwyneth from Ben [Affleck], because he was with her after Brad [Pitt], so I knew that story... I never talked to Gwyneth about it. Ben told me," he explained.

Apologising for 'missing' any incidents that happened while he was in Weinstein's company, Matt insisted that the Hollywood magnate never behaved inappropriately "out in the open".

Although acknowledging that he knew Weinstein was an 'asshole and a womaniser', Damon went on to clarify that he was unaware of his "darkness", before paying tribute to the victims who have come forward in recent weeks.

"I am not the story here," he said. "The story is these women and what happened to them. So if I'm experiencing this discomfort, it hardly bears mention.
