Matt Hancock was showered with bugs and sludge during his 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!' debut.

The 44-year-old politician and comedian Seann Walsh took part in their first Bushtucker Trial, called Beastly Burrows, shortly after entering the jungle.

The duo were required to crawl through dark, muddy tunnels that were filled with insects and sludge in search of stars.

At one point, Matt asked Seann: "Which way do you want me to go?"

The comedy star replied: "I’m not a sat-nav - I don’t know!"

Despite the drama, Matt and Sean still managed to earn six stars for the camp.

Matt - who served as the health secretary during the COVID-19 pandemic - tripped up on the way into the camp and he also received a mixed reception once he arrived.

Boy George revealed that he almost lost his mum during the health crisis and that he wasn't able to see her when she went into hospital.

He said: "Had I lost her, I would have walked out when he [Matt] came in."

The controversial politician was subsequently voted to do the next trial, called Tentacles of Terror, by the public.

Meanwhile, Matt recently admitted to being fearful of snakes during his time in the jungle.

However, the politician suggested he wouldn't be particularly worried about the other challenges on the show.

He said: "I have never come across a snake at close quarters and so I am pretty worried about anything to do with snakes. I am not claustrophobic, or at least I haven’t been found to be, but that’s the thing about 'I’m a Celebrity' - it is the unknown."
