At the very least, we know that Batman will be sitting comfortably in his new movie.

Director Matt Reeves has posted a picture from day one of filming on the new iteration of the Dark Knight's crime-fighting's exploits, with the clapperboard nestled on a sumptuous leather chesterfield.

Also given away by the clapperboard is the fact that Reeves appears to be shooting on film and not digital, with details of frame rate and the section of film roll in use.

Pre-production has been taking place in place in London for a few weeks now, but now cameras are finally rolling.

Behind the lens will be director of photography Greig Fraser, who's just recently finished work on Denis Villeneuve's remake of cult sci-fi movie – and novel – Dune.

Fraser also worked on notable movies like Foxcatcher, Zero Dark Thirty, Rogue One, Vice, and Lion, for which he earned an Oscar nomination.

In front of the camera will be Robert Pattinson, who is playing the latest version of Batman, the first since Ben Affleck hung up the cowl.

Though there is little to go on plot-wise, Reeves, known for his two excellent Planet of the Apes reboot movies and Cloverfield, has said that it find Batman in a more detective-like role.

He'll have his work cut out too.

Confirmed villains for the movie include Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone.

Also on the bill are Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

It lands on June 25, 2021.
