Matteo Darmian hints at Man Utd exit after admitting he misses Italy

Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian admits he misses Italy amid persistent rumours over a return to his homeland.

Darmian has featured in just three league matches for Jose Mourinho's side this season and has seldom looked like forcing his way back into the first-team picture on a permanent basis.

The 29-year-old was heavily linked with a return to Serie A during the summer transfer window with Juventus, Inter Milan, Napoli and Roma all said to be interested in offering him a route back to Italy.

Darmian told Gazzetta dello Sport: "I must say, I really do miss Serie A and Italy now.

"I know that I am at one of the best clubs in the world and I am proud to be at Manchester United, but I do miss Italy. I love my country."

Darmian was told he was free to leave Old Trafford during the summer – but only if a suitable offer came in.
