Yahoo News Matthew McConaughey says he never dated co-stars to keep on-screen chemistry ‘sizzling’
Matthew McConaughey has revealed why he has never dated his co-stars.
The Texan actor has appeared in films opposite stars including Kate Hudson, Sandra Bullock, Penelope Cruz and Jennifer Lopez.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, McConaughey shared why none of his movie pairings ever turned romantic.
“If you look at the history of films, when you see a couple — say they did a movie together and then, later on, they get married, and they make another movie together,” he said. “Watch the movie – when they’re really good is the movie before it was ever public that they’re getting together.”
He continued: "But once they get married, you watch that movie, they’re not near as good together... It’s the movie when they met that you go, ‘That's the one [where] this thing is sizzling.'”
The 50-year-old added: “I’ve always tried to keep it professional and the people I’ve worked with, I must say, did as well.”
However, the True Detective star – who has been married to model and designer Camila Alvez since 2012 – did admit to having “certain crushes”.
He said: “Maybe we had certain crushes on each other at certain times, but we always just kind of kept it professional. Or maybe we were dating somebody seriously outside of ourselves at the time and we both respected that for the other.”
A huge number of celebrity relationships began on screen. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe began dating on the set of Cruel Intentions; Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp got together after acting together in Edward Scissorhands.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell began their long-lasting relationship after they starred as lovers in Swing Shift.
On a recent episode of Gwenyth Paltrow’s Goop podcast, Hudson revealed that McCoaughney was her worst on-screen kiss.
