Mauricio Pochettino says he 'cannot guarantee' Dele Alli will be at Tottenham next season

Mauricio Pochettino has demanded complete focus from his Tottenham players in the closing weeks of the season but says he cannot be certain Dele Alli will stay at the club.

Tottenham’s best players will be targeted by richer clubs in the summer. Both Kyle Walker and Danny Rose have spoken to Pochettino about interest from elsewhere, and on Monday former Barcelona and Spain star Xavi suggested Pep Guardiola would try to take Dele Alli to Manchester City.

The clubs who covet Tottenham stars would all offer them significantly higher salaries.

It would be a huge surprise if Tottenham sold Alli this summer, but it will be interesting to see their response with Walker, who is admired by both Manchester United and Manchester City.

Asked specifically whether Alli would be at Spurs next season, Spurs boss Pochettino said: “I cannot guarantee anything in life. The most important thing is to enjoy present and don’t think about future.

“In the future we will take the best decisions for club. After three years you can see how the team is improving every year and all our decisions so far have been good.

“Trust in the club that we will take the best decision to achieve things, to improve next season again. That’s the most important thing.

"We care a lot about club and now we must focus on the present to try to help the team be there if Chelsea drop points.

“It will be special if in the last season at White Hart Lane we win the league. In the next three or four weeks we must give our best.

"We need big efforts from all of us, for the players to try to focus and not think about holidays, rumours, what will happen next season.

“In the last three to four weeks I want a big effort from everyone to achieve. Then we can congratulate everyone and try next season.”

Pochettino added that Ben Davies, who did not start the FA Cup semi-final defeat by Chelsea, may be restored to the team at Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
