Mauricio Pochettino on Tottenham’s 3-2 win at West Ham: Discusses Serge Aurier’s red card, Harry Kane and more

Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with how Tottenham came out on top against West Ham to claim a win which he admits meant ‘more than three points’.

Spurs ran out 3-2 winners at West Ham’s London Stadium, a result that took them up to fourth place in the Premier League table.

Tottenham had led 3-0 following two goals from Harry Kane and second half strike from Christian Eriksen, before Javier Hernandez pulled one back for the Hammers.

Serge Aurier’s red card for two bookable offences sparked a nervy end to match, with Cheikhou Kouyate pulling another goal back late on for Slaven Bilic’s side.

But speaking after the match, Pochettino insisted the Ivorian was unfortunate to have been sent off.

"I understand this is football,” he said. “The first yellow he didn't deserve. The second, sometimes this happens. It happened with me many times. The team is happy with him. He has settled really well.

"We played well and fought. Sometimes it is good to suffer a little bit as it means you are alive. We deserved to win the game. With 10 men for us they dominated the game and put balls into the box -- they are powerful in that phase of the game -but we held on. This means more than three points as they played for their pride and for the fans.”

Tottenham’s focus now turns to the Champions League, where they travel to face APOEL on Tuesday.
