Mauricio Pochettino today expressed confidence that this season would be Tottenham's last at White Hart Lane ahead of a proposed move to Wembley for 2017-18.

Spurs have still not activated their option with the Football Association to stage home fixtures at the national stadium next season, as Standard Sport revealed on Thursday that they have been asked to give an answer by the end of April.

That means Tottenham’s immediate future could be determined on the eve of the meeting with Arsenal on April 30, which many believe will be the final north London derby at White Hart Lane.

Chairman Daniel Levy said this week that Spurs were still not certain of their timetables, ahead of the planned move to their new 61,000-seat ground – a project costing about £800million – for the 2018-19 season.

But Pochettino remains hopeful. The Tottenham manager said: “I am calm.

"I trust and I believe that it will all be sorted in the new few weeks, and we will move to Wembley next season to allow our new stadium to be finished.

“I trust at the moment that there is no reason to be worried. We must be sure that we move.

"I understand the club are very cautious about the situation but I am not worried: I am calm. I trust this will be our last season at White Hart Lane.”

Levy is currently out of the country, though Spurs may make an announcement about their intentions before the end of this week.

The original deadline agreed with the FA was March 31, and it now appears highly unlikely they will meet it.

The club are considering, therefore, whether to clarify the new schedule in a statement.
