Campaigners supporting Max the dog are calling for the support of local councillors to ensure the results of the puppy's upcoming assessment is transparent.

It comes as Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council have now committed to co-operate with the USPCA and allow a third party independent assessment to take place on the dog in order to definitively determine his age and breed.

The U-Turn by the council was praised by the USPCA who said that it showed "the power of the people" who have been campaigning for the release of the young dog from the pound and into the care of a foster family.

Now, campaigners are urging people to contact their local councillors and call for complete transparency with regards to Max's upcoming assessment. They have developed a template email that they are asking people to send to their local councillor urging for immidiate action as soon as the results of the assessment are complete.

Zara Duncan, who has been one of the leading figures in the campaign, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the Council's decision to support an independent assessment of Max's breed, as coordinated with the USPCA.

"Given the high level of public interest in Max, it’s crucial that the outcome of this assessment is shared transparently. The support from our local Councillors will be instrumental in ensuring this happens.

"The email requesting action can be sent to members@lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk, which will reach all 40 local Councillors.

"The community remains committed to ensuring Max’s protection and looks forward to working alongside the Council for a fair and transparent outcome."
