Maxim Dadashev dead: Boxer dies aged 28 as a result of injuries sustained in defeat to Subriel Matias

Boxer Maxim Dadashev has died as the result of injuries suffered inside the ring on Friday night.

The 28-year-old was placed in a medically induced coma before undergoing surgery on Friday night to relieve bleeding of the brain following his 11th round loss to Subriel Matias in Maryland.

Dadashev's IBF junior welterweight title eliminator against Matias was stopped in the 11th round by his trainer Buddy McGirt who decided his fighter has taken too much damage.

McGirt and Dadashev's strength and conditioning coach Donatas Janusevicius confirmed the tragic news to EPSN.

Dadashev was born in St Petersburg and has fought as a professional out of California. He entered Friday's contest unbeaten, having perviously taken 13 wins from 13 fights.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn led the tributes to the Russian, writing on Twitter: “So terribly sad to hear the news of the passing of Maxim Dadashev. Rest in peace."

2016 Olympian Anthony Fowler also wrote: "This fella Maxim Dadashev was a fighter until his last breath, it’s a brutal cruel sport at times. May god rest his soul.”
