Maya Jama says she is 'excited' as she announces new ITV judge role
TV favourite Maya Jama is stepping in to replace Rita Ora as a judge on 'The Masked Singer UK'. The 30-year-old Love Island presenter, who is also set to host the 'All Stars' version of the popular dating series, will bring fresh energy to the panel of the zany singing competition.
She'll sit alongside showbiz veterans Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall, as well as comic Mo Gilligan when the new series airs.
In a statement about her latest gig, she said: "I’m such a ‘Masked Singer’ fan, so joining the panel alongside Davina, Jonathan, and Mo – and of course working with (host) Joel (Dommett) – is going to be so much fun!"
Maya sounded particularly excited about getting stuck in, adding: "I can’t wait to figure out who’s underneath all those incredible costumes, vibe to their performances, and get front-row seats to the unmaskings."
She also promised to bring her best detective skills to the show, claiming: "I’ve watched the show for a long time, so I’m definitely bringing my A-game to the panel!"
Since taking over 'Love Island' in 2023, Maya Jama has been a hit with the audience and this summer will mark her third season presenting the hot reality show.
Daniel Nettleton and Derek McLean of Bandicoot TV, co-founders of the production company behind 'Masked Singer UK’, expressed their delight at Maya's addition to the show: "When we decided to add a bombshell to the panel, we knew we need not look any further than Maya. " Her high-profile flair and music knowledge were highlighted: "She might be a style icon and fashion magazine cover girl, but when it comes to music, she’s an absolute nerd, which might help her solve the clues as our newest celebrity detective."
The duo concluded with a warm welcome: "We are delighted to welcome her to the ‘Masked Singer’ family."
Rita, 33, has been a judge on the masked celebrity singing competition since 2020. However, after five series and frequent substitutions by guest judges due to her busy work schedule, she decided to step down.
