Mayfair galleries and auction houses will throw open their doors to the public for a weekend of free art as part of a new festival.

The Royal Academy will team up with more than 60 local businesses and institutions for the Mayfair Art Weekend from June 30 to July 2.

Thousands of visitors are expected for the event, which will include tours and talks.

Charles Saumarez Smith, Royal Academy chief executive, said: “In the lead up to the Royal Academy’s 250th anniversary in 2018, and the launch of our transformed site at Burlington Gardens, we are delighted to partner with the Mayfair Art Weekend in bringing the art community together to open up and celebrate this special place.

“Not only is Mayfair the heart of creativity in central London but it is one of the most dynamic art districts in the world.”
