While McDonald's was busy giving away Big Mac-covered merch across the US to celebrate its collaboration with UberEATS, design students in Miami, Florida, were creating their own version of McDonald's attire.

Forty fledgling fashionistas from Miami International University of Art and Design were challenged to create swim and resort wear outfits inspired by McDonald's using the chain's wrappers and boxes.

Twenty were then picked to be featured and compete in the McDCouture Signature Crafted Swim Collection at the start of Miami's Swim Week, according to the Miami New Times.

Selected designs included elaborate trains, vests, hats, and dresses made out of lids, cups, sauce tops and more.

Overall, 2,800 fry boxes, 2,800 straws, 825 soft drink cups, 225 Happy Meal boxes, 2,900 sandwich boxes, 1,000 Sriracha sauce lids and 300 McFlurry cups were used, according to the university's website.

The 20 looks were judged on their uniqueness and wearability. Many used a red swimsuit and yellow bandeau as a base, keeping in line with the brand's famous colour scheme.

The winner, senior Pablo Machado, earned a $5,000 (£3,820) scholarship for his elaborate look, 'McDCouture Angel', which featured flowers made from 400 fry boxes and butterflies made from 1,100 sandwich wrappers.

This is the third year in a row the challenge has been held. The entire collection will be on display at the Miami International University of Art and Design's gallery for the next month if you're heading to Florida on holiday and fancy checking out these McD's-inspired outfits up close.
