With the arrival of McDonald’s Veggie Dippers on January 2, 2020, the fast food giant will launch its first-ever fully vegan meal.

Available as an adult meal or Happy Meal size, the Veggie Dippers – which have been accredited by The Vegan Society - are made with red pepper, rice, sundried tomato pesto and split peas surrounded by light and crispy breadcrumbs.

The full meal will come with fries (which are already vegan) and a soft drink.

Thomas O’Neill, Head of Food Marketing at McDonald’s UK & Ireland, said: “In the last 12 months we’ve seen an 80 per cent uplift in customers ordering vegetarian options at McDonald’s, so it is time for the brand famous for the dippable McNugget to launch a dippable option for our vegetarian, vegan and flexitarian customers.

“The Veggie Dippers are a delicious addition to our menu and we’re looking forward to seeing what customers make of our first vegan Extra Value Meal and Happy Meal in the New Year.”

The Veggie Dipper meal (with four dippers) is £4.99 or £2.99 for the Happy Meal size (with two dippers). Four Veggie Dippers can also be purchased separately for £3.29.

These dippers come after McDonald’s launched vegan McNuggets in Norway earlier this year made of a mix of potato, chickpeas, onions, carrot and corn wrapped in breadcrumb coating.

This isn’t the first vegan product McDonald’s has launched in 2019. The chain also launched the ‘McFalafel’ in Sweden made from chickpeas, parsley, garlic, and cumin. Our Scandinavian neighbours have also been the first to try the ‘McVegan’ burger, with Sweden and Finland getting first dibs on that.
