McDonald's has issued more information on the temporary closure of its Lord Street restaurant. Signs have been placed around the venue directing customers to other city centre locations.

A sign on fencing surrounding the site says: "Preparing... We're busy making some exciting changes. We reopen on March 20". The restaurant is also not currently available to order from on the McDonald's app and website, which says: "Closed for renovation from 01/20/2025 to 03/19/2025."

A McDonald's spokesperson has told the ECHO the temporary closure is for a "convenience of the future" refurbishment. The restaurant's revamp includes a new layout with the latest technology to improve speed, efficiency and choice when ordering.

McDonald's hopes the refurbishment will create a more enjoyable and seamless experience for customers. The reopening is scheduled or March 20.

A McDonald’s spokesperson told the ECHO: "The pace of change within the restaurant industry is relentless, and the pandemic accelerated this with digital adoption gathering greater pace. Our customers rightly expect to have choice in how and where they order and collect their food, and our job is to ensure that every experience is a great one.

"For this to be the case, we know we also must provide our restaurant teams and delivery partners with the best possible environment to work in. We strongly believe we must continue to invest to grow, and this investment not only addresses how customers are ordering now but provides us with a platform to continue to adapt in the future, whatever that innovation looks like”.

Lord Street was Liverpool's first McDonald's, first opening its doors in November 1985. The interior was described as looking "like a space station", with "a thirties chrome and marbled Hollywood feel to it and a chandelier hanging over the staircase."
