Giovanna Fletcher has revealed that her husband Tom and his McFly bandmates once damaged a rental property by staging a paintball fight.

The 36-year-old I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here winner — who married frontman Tom in 2012, having dated him since their schooldays — revealed that the band had to "pay majorly" in the aftermath.

"Essentially they were students with money," Giovanna said on the Private Parts podcast with Jamie Laing and Francis Boulle.

She added: "I went to bed early and I remember being woken up by the guys. They had bought paint guns and they were having a paintball fight in the house.

"They were running around. I was like "oh my God". But those were the fun times."

She added: "This was a rented house. Needless to say they did not get the deposit back. They had to pay majorly."

All four members of McFly were teenagers when the band formed in 2002, breaking out with their debut album Room on the 3rd Floor in 2004.

The album, which featured hits including Five Colours in Her Hair and Obviously, debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart.

They were the youngest act to achieve that feat, usurping a record previously held by The Beatles.

Speaking on the podcast, Giovanna revealed she still loves being with Tom after nine years of marriage and 18 years together.

She said: "We met at 13 at theatre school. [There's] the whole myth of growing up with someone and it gets too comfortable, but comfort is nice.

"Seeing each other as parents is a whole new thing."

Giovanna also revealed that she had experienced a huge scare when writing her new book Walking on Sunshine, believing she had lost 12,000 words of writing due to a broken laptop.

Thankfully, it transpired that the work had been saved to the cloud and she was able to get back on track.

The novel is due to be released in November 2021.
