'How are we meant to survive without electricity for five weeks?'
The owners of a popular bar and kitchen in Bury closed for more than a month after its electric supply was reportedly cut have asked: "How are we meant to survive?"
The Dog Haus, on Parr Lane in Unsworth, is said to have suffered a 'major electrical fault' on November 7. Having called out supplier E.ON Next, the owners claim they were unable to book an engineer visit until five weeks later.
In a social media post, the owners claimed they were initially told an engineer would not be able to stop by until December 11. The venue has been shut since the problem started.
Posting about the situation on Instagram, the owners of the bar said: "On the 7th November 2024, we had a major electrical fault at the venue, @eon_next arrived on site and cut our supply as it was a health and safety risk. Following this we have had endless phone calls and emails to rectify the problem and get us back up and running.
"How are we meant to survive being closed for 5 weeks during our busiest time of year?!”
E.ON Next has said it is 'working with the customer' to ensure the energy supply is restored 'as soon as possible' and is investigating the issue. A technical specialist was due to visit on Thursday (December 5).
The Dog Haus serves up a range of brunch options and Sunday roasts, as well as a small plates menu. The venue has become known for its premium cocktails and drinks selection, as well its regular calendar of events - including live music, psychic nights and 'Sunday Sessions' acoustic nights.
The owners said being unable open during a busy time of year has threatened their future. The Instagram post added: "We are a small independent business, who in the current climate survives week to week.
"We have put everything into the Dog Haus and see ourselves as a hub for the local community and you guys are what makes it so special and stops us from giving up."
It is hoped the venue will reopen by December 13. Asking regulars and local residents to get behind them, the owners added: "We will need your continued support and loyalty to get through this difficult time and take us into 2025 with a band! Supporting local has never been as important as it is now.
"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you to all the parties that have been so understanding. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on the 13th."
A spokesperson for E.ON Next said: "We apologise to our customer who has helpfully made us aware that the electrical wires at their property have been cut. A technical specialist will be attending the property today to investigate further, and we will work with our customer to ensure their energy supply is restored as soon as possible."
