Medics in the Democratic Republic of the Congo were jubilant as they discharged the last Ebola patient from a treatment center in Beni on March 3, after an outbreak that lasted more than a year.
More than 2,200 people died in the outbreak, which was declared on August 1, 2018, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The WHO’s Regional Director for Africa tweeted that there were currently zero cases of Ebola in the country, and she was “cautiously optimistic” that the outbreak would end soon.
Two videos were shared on Twitter, showing the patient leaving the center, and medics chanting, playing percussion, and dancing. They can be downloaded as a set above. Credit: WHO African Region via Storyful
