WATCH: Rare Albino Turtle Hatches On Australian Beach

A rare baby albino green turtle has been spotted after hatching on an Australian beach before successfully making it into the sea.

Alby was found by conservationists on Castaways Beach in Noosa, Queensland.

The tough little turtle was filmed immediately after hatching, stubbornly overcoming blades of grass and successfully making it to the sea.

Albino turtles are thought to be around a 1-in-100,000 occurrence.

“It was a surprise. We were amazed to see this small white creature with pink flippers,“ said Leigh Warneminde, president of a local conservation group.

"It is a very rare find. It is the first time I’ve see one."

Alby was among 122 baby turtle hatchlings on the beach. The albino emerged from the same nest as several other turtles a couple of days earlier.

Dr Col Limpus of Queensland’s Government’s Threatened Species Unit chief scientist said albino turtles are so rare they are only found in one of every hundreds of thousands of eggs.

But despite making it to the see, Alby could have a tough future.

They can suffer health problems and are not well-suited to the environment, which means there chances of survival can be slim.
