Meet The Circle's first batch of contestants

Eight contestants will be taking part in Channel 4's brand new reality show. Some are "real", some are basically catfishing. They'll be living in the same building, but will not get to see or hear one another, except for communicating through a specially-designed social-media platform called, yup, The Circle. There's £50,000 up for grabs, but who will get the most "likes" and become the most popular?

Game plan: Aiden plans to play the game just as she plays out her life on social media. "If I go in, just be me and do my own thing, people will like or dislike me for the right reasons," she says.

Favourite social media platform: As a content producer for UNILAD, he's carved a career in social marketing. He also boasts 400k+ fans globally, thanks to his own comedy and memes account.

Game plan: Alex has decided to play the game using the photos of someone he thinks has the potential to be even more likeable than he is – his girlfriend. He plans to flirt with the boys and befriend the girls in a bid to be most popular.

Favourite social media platform: Instagram is his favoured account; he says that 90% of his followers are female. Dan has also been on holiday with people he has met on the platform.

Game plan: As a former estate agent who prides himself on his charming sales skills, Dan plans to use his talents to win everyone over.

Favourite social media platform: He says he's "obsessed" with social media, and is always on Instagram and Twitter.

Game plan: Freddie plans on using his own profile photos and being himself, but with
the exception of portraying himself with a different sexuality. "When I'm communicating with people via The Circle, they're not going to know the fact that I'm gay," he says. "I want to see if I'll be popular as a straight man, to find out if people will like me for me or only because I'm gay."

Favourite social media platform: Since becoming a mum, Genelle feels that her social life has shrunk and finds that social media is a great way to stay connected. She says you can find her on "every corner of the internet".
