Meet The Doctor Who Treats Patients Despite Losing Both Her Legs

A doctor has cared for thousands of patients for the past 15 years despite having no legs.

Li Juhong, 36, uses a wooden stool to move around and travels from her home to a medical centre every day.

She lost her legs in 1983 at the age of four after her body was caught under the wheels of a truck in her home village of Wadian in China’s Chongqing Province.

She was left with one-inch stumps and had to learn how to walk with her hands and small wooden stools.

However, she later left the village for school and also obtained a degree in medicine, before returning home in 2001 to practice there.

The health centre where she works is 500m from her home.

She uses two stools to move and is carried up the stairs by her husband, Liu Xingyan.

She has treated more than 6,000 patients in the past 15 years, wearing out 24 stools.

And yet she still makes house calls to patients in her village.

Liu Liguo, Li’s 12-year-old son, said he also wants to become a doctor.
