Meet the first-time landlord and sidekick taking on Huddersfield pub in 'dream come true'
A Huddersfield man is going back to his roots by taking on a local pub following a globe-trotting career.
David Aisthorpe has previously worked and lived in Germany and Spain, and learned the art of chocolate making in Switzerland before going on to help set up chocolate factories abroad. He completed 17 years with Nestle and then worked in a sales environment for a food and drink company where he coincidentally completed a further 17 years.
He's now taken on The Beaumont Arms pub in Netherton, Huddersfield, where he recalls having a few pints as a young man when he lived at nearby Beaumont Park.

David, along with his sidekick Franc, a French bulldog, took over as the landlord of The Beaumont Arms a week ago. The previous landlord, David Smith and his sister Jane, had run the pub for 29 years.
The new landlord has joked that he might not manage 29 years in Netherton but he's looking forward to the challenge of running his first pub. He's had experience working behind the bar at Da Sandro restaurant in Birchencliffe, Huddersfield, but that was a while ago now.
David said he loves meeting and chatting to people and says the new job was a bit of a dream come true. "It is something I have always wanted to do," he said. "I have always wanted to get into hospitality and run my own pub. I used to drink here when I was 18 years old and it hasn't changed much in all that time.
"When I heard Dave was retiring I thought 'if I am going to do it, I am going to do it now'.
"I have just turned 53 and this (role) is me to when I retire - maybe it will be two years, maybe it will be 10 years."
David says he will be a 'front of house' and a 'happy, smiley' landlord and has plans to bring in more customers from far and wide. He is currently looking to recruit a cook with a view to providing traditional, home cooked meals.
And for those who like beer, the pub has Timothy Taylors Boltmaker, Farmers Blonde, and Wainwright Gold.
David describes the pub as a 'village local' and a community pub. He has plans to 'evolve' it but there won't be any big surprises or any plans to turn it into a sports bar.
