Meet Ford's ultra-efficient robot dog

Introducing: Ford's robot dog

Courtesy: Ford

Fluffy is one of two dog-like bots

being leased to auto company Ford

by engineering firm Boston Dynamics

Location: Dearborn, Michigan

It can sit, shake hands and roll over

but it can also create 3D scans

of Ford's manufacturing plants

Engineers can use those images

to develop new vehicle programs

thanks to more accurate layouts

of the facilities

This could help bring new vehicles

to the market faster

and save time, reduce costs and increase efficiency

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MARK GODERIS, DIGITAL ENGINEERING MANAGER, FORD MOTOR COMPANY, SAYING:

"We're utilizing it to actually do laser scans of our facility. That image is then utilized by our engineers, to develop new vehicle programs, and it allows them to develop more accurate layouts of our facilities."
