Meet the inspiring 10-year-old boy donating his hair to make wigs for children with cancer
A compassionate boy is preparing to cut his hair off so it can be turned into a wig for a child going through chemotherapy.
Joseph Smith, 10, from Preston, East Yorkshire, said he was inspired to take the plunge after watching his mum lose her hair while undergoing treatment for cancer. The haircut is scheduled for 4:30pm on Friday at a hairdresser in Hedon.
He told Hull Live: "I feel excited but also quite nervous. The hair is going to made into a real hair wig for children who have lost their hair in cancer. I'm doing it because my mum lost her hair from cancer."

Joseph's dad Adam said: "All the family are so proud of him. It's amazing what he has chosen to do and we are so thankful for all the family and friends and the support we've had from everybody really.
"You don't realise how many people come together and help and give others the opportunity to help charities. It's really nice."
Thanking people who have helped, Joseph added: "There's been a lot of people from school and friends and family that have been very supportive with my hair."
Joseph's been looking at several shorter hairstyles but is not sure what he will have yet. He plans to donate a full 12 inches of hair.
Donations are open on Joseph's Just Giving page. The hair will be donated to The Little Princess Trust and money raised is being split equally between Joseph's chosen charities.
On the page, he commented: "As well as donating the hair I would like to raise money at the same time for two other causes close to my heart, one being the Lymphoma Action Support UK that looked after my mum when she went through cancer treatment and Barham AFC Hull - my football club that I love being a part of. They both do awesome work to help others and I would like to give something back to them to carry on the good work."
