KentLive wanted to find the cutest dogs in Kent and hundreds of our readers sent us adorable photographs of their four-legged friends. We received about 500 photos of the sweetest dogs from across Kent, all putting their best paw forward, from dazzling dachshunds to brilliant boxers.

Although it was a hard task we narrowed the entries down to a top 12 and asked for your votes in the competition to mark National Pet Day. The shortlist was made up of these fantastic furries Albert, Barney, Bear, Bertie, Bobby, Caramel, Cooper, Looney, Louie, Opie, Saskia and Stormy!

And the waiting is finally over, after a hard fought week-long battle for who was going to be our top dogs. The votes have been counted and we are delighted to announce the gorgeous doggos in first, second and third place.

Photos of our top 12 shortlist dogs were put to KentLive readers to vote for their winner. With a total of more than 5,000 votes in the poll, everyone has been eagerly awaiting the drum roll and the announcement.

Cooper the cutie! He's an eight-month-old Basset Hound, as far as his owners are aware, and came from a rescue dogs trust in Canterbury. He loves stealing socks, jumping like a rabbit in long grass, mopping floors at home with his long, we ears, and finding the sunniest spot to sunbathe.

Owner Jade Groves said: "We like to go on sandy walks on the beach together in Margate and snuggle on the sofa, he's a real lap dog and will plonk himself on you immediately.

"He likes to crawl under things, particular under the sofa to hide things (mostly our socks). He loves any puzzle / snuffle game, where he's a hound he loves to sniff and find his food."

"He is mad for carrots, his eyes light up when he sees them. He absolutely loves food and will eat anything and everything. He's particularly enjoying duck breast strips from Good Boy at the moment! He's also partial to eating a whole fish off of the beach - which I do not like him doing - he's a very mischievous boy!"

Bobby is bouncing with cuteness. He is a three-year-old German Shepherd and loves cheese, gammon and McDonald's chicken nuggets. He's a beach-loving boy and loves trips to Dungeness and Whitstable to swim in the sea.

Owner Bethan Kneale said: "I’m originally from up north, so he loves trips back to Grimsby to see his favourite person in the world, my grandad John Kneale. He is genuinely the loveliest dog ever, although I know I’m biased, and everyone who meets Bobby absolutely loves him.

"He’s chatty and boisterous but very loving and cuddly with me and his Dad! He loves a visit to a pub garden, he loves The Bell in Bredhurst and The Old Neptune in Whitstable, mainly because he loves all the attention he gets!"

First place - Bertie

Bertie is a real cutie pie. He is a two-year-old Cavapoo with so much character and throws a cheeky side eye. He's a wonderful, cheeky boy who loves stealing tissues, socks and his Dad's boxer shorts"

His favourite spot in the house is in the window, because he's very nosey. He loves to be the neigbhourhood watch, so much so that regular passers by now look out for him and wave.

He likes going to the pub with his owners and bouncing around fields like a spring lamb. Owner Rebecca Woodcock said: "He loves going to 'Best Behaviour' exercise school for dogs and takes any newbies under his wing to show them the ropes."

"He always has a wonderful time with his amazing sitter, Sandy from PAWS Truly when we're busy or away for the night. He loves his auntie Sandy so much and gets so excited when we turn in to her street."

"He's always very cheeky for Emel at Furry Friends when having his groom. He plays hard to get when we arrive and then before you know it she has won him over and he smothers her in kisses. His favourite chew is Lamb Trachea."

"He can sense cheese being lifted out of the fridge a mile away! No matter where he is in the house, or what he's up to, when that fridge opens and the cheese comes out, he's guaranteed to be there, waiting patiently."

"We love going for little breaks away and visiting new places. Two of our favourite places have been Norfolk and Devon so far. His loves tickles and cuddles and loves to bury his head in to you when getting tickles>
