Pity the poor owners of Lucy the rescue dog. Whenever they take her out for a walk, they are constantly stopped by passers-by who can't take their eyes off the puppy's ear.

Lucy was born with unique markings that look like a perfect mirror image of herself on her left ear.

The markings appear to show two floppy ears, eyes, a nose and a mouth.

Lucy, who is eight months old, was part of a litter delivered at an animal rescue centre in New York called Lollypop Farm.

The playful puppy was adopted by students Cassidy Troy and her boyfriend, Zach Johnson. They didn't even notice its ear until a shop worker pointed it out to them when they were buying dog food on the day they collected the puppy from the shelter.

Mr Johnson, 20, said: "Everyone thinks she is so cute and then when they spot her ear they usually say, 'Oh my gosh that is super cool' or 'That's amazing, I've never seen anything like that'.

"It's always great to get compliments like that and have her noticed by others.

"Lucy absolutely loves attention as well. She is probably the sweetest dog I have ever met.

"She gets super excited whenever someone wants to give her some attention or play."

Miss Troy, 19, added: "Whenever people come up to pet her she can't stop wiggling and trying to give kisses.

"When we tell people about her ear they don't tend to believe us until we actually show them.

"I have yet to meet a person that doesn't fall in love with her after meeting her."
