Megabus to stop all Leicester services as National Express steps in
Megabus is set to withdraw all of its services to Leicester from December. In response, National Express has announced it will be adding 2,000 more seats per week on “popular routes” between the city and London.
Megabus said it was reducing its network from Wednesday, December 4, “due to low passenger demand”, and because it had made the decision to “improve the efficiency” of its service. The company ran a number of services to and from a stop alongside Asda at Fosse Park, with destinations including London, Sheffield, Nottingham and Newcastle.
Following the news, National Express said that demand for “affordable intercity travel” remained “strong”. As a result, it said, it would be providing an additional four services a day on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays for its 440 service to and from Leicester.

A spokeswoman for the company, which operates its Leicester services from St Margaret's Bus Station, said the capacity would increase on the day the Megabus services stop. She said "further additional capacity on top" would also be available depending on demand.
Megabus will continue to run all cross-border services between Scotland, England, and Wales, as well as all Falcon services in the south west of England.
