Meghan Markle's father Thomas claims Royal family are giving him the 'silent treatment'

The Duchess of Sussex’s father has hit out at the royal family, claiming they are giving him the silent treatment.

Thomas Markle said that after missing Meghan’s wedding in May he had only spoken publicly so that his daughter would contact him.

He added defiantly that he was now “enjoying the fact” his comments had put the royals into “silent mode”.

It comes after his daughter Samantha, Meghan's estranged half-sister claimed she would hold the Duchess of Sussex responsible if he dies.

His latest outburst came days after he claimed in another interview that the duchess was struggling with her new life.

“I was silent for a full year and the press beat me up every day saying I was a hermit hiding in Mexico, so I gave my story,” Markle told celebrity news website TMZ. “Apparently that interview put the royal family in their silence mode ... so I gave another interview to break the silence. All they have to do is speak to me.” He made it clear he had no intention of disappearing.

“Tomorrow is my birthday, 74 years old, and I’m enjoying the fact that I can make the entire royal family not speak and maybe I can get a laugh out of the duchess,” he added.

It has been reported that Mr Markle has not spoken to his daughter in two months.

Mr Markle also appeared on Good Morning Britain last month, revealing details of telephone conversations with Prince Harry in which they discussed Brexit and Donald Trump.

In his interview with The Sun On Sunday, the retired film lighting director said Meghan seemed “terrified” of her new role. “I know her smile. I don’t like the one I’m seeing now. This one isn’t even a stage smile — this is a pained smile,” he added.
