In first official statement, Meghan Markle confirms that her father won't attend royal wedding

It’s been confirmed by Kensington Palace that Meghan Markle’s father will not be attending the royal wedding.

“I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health,” the 36-year-old said in her first official statement.

“I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support,” she added, and expressed her excitement for the day.

Thomas Markle told TMZ  that he was having heart surgery Wednesday to repair “significant damage” to his heart from a previous attack.

“They [doctors] will go in and clear blockage, repair damage, and put a stent where it is needed,” the 73-year-old said.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to say “I do” on Saturday, May 19, at Windsor Castle. Yahoo will cover the historic event live from London from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. BST (5 a.m. to 10 a.m. ET). Bookmark this link to follow along LIVE.
