Meghan Markle has been encouraged to reconcile with her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

Thomas, who suffered a stroke in 2022, hasn't seen Meghan or her husband, Prince Harry for six years, with their last contact being when he was hospitalised prior to their wedding.

After the Sussexes' wedding in May 2018, Meghan severed ties with her father's side of the family.

The Duchess of Sussex distanced herself from her dad and his relatives after he orchestrated paparazzi photos ahead of the royal wedding in May 2018.

Now, after years of separation, a royal commentator has advised Meghan to "make amends" with her father before focusing on "changing her image", the Mirror reports.

Speaking to GB News America, Daily Mail columnist Maureen Callahan commented: "She probably won't listen to the best minds around her.

"This reminds me of our last conversation about Meghan and her inability, for whatever reason, to mend fences with her own sick father."

Ms Callahan further added: "I think if she really had any intention of making amends with not just the King and the Prince and Princess of Wales, but with the British people to whom gave her so much goodwill and the wedding.

"Step number one, I think, would be to very quietly make amends with her own father. Show that charity begins at home, and then you make the slow approach to the royals, whom you have so denigrated and accused of terrible things, while you monetised all these accusations.

"It can't be that they're so terrible that you want nothing to do with them and you could never step foot in the UK again unless it's a luxury Windsor lounge at Heathrow. You may be overreacting."

She also urged Meghan to "get everything right in terms of priorities". Ms Callahan highlighted the health struggles of King Charles and the Princess of Wales, suggesting now is an opportune moment for Meghan "to swallow some of that humble pie she's cooking up".

Nonetheless, the royal commentator expressed concerns that Meghan might be beyond the point of offering an apology.

Thomas Markle made his feelings clear during a segment on Good Morning Britain last September, stating: "I've always been here for her, I love her, I'll love her forever."

He added: "I want her to reach out to me and let me see my grandkids and let me have a little peace. It's been five years."

In the same interview, Thomas lamented the fact he has yet to meet his grandchildren, saying: "I want to see my grandkids and I think the King wants to see his too."

This was a direct reference to the monarch's limited contact with his grandkids following Meghan and Harry's decision to relocate to the US after stepping down from their royal duties in 2020.
