  • The Duchess of Sussex wore a gold and diamond whale tail-shaped pendant necklace earlier this week. It was gifted to the duchess by First Nations artist Hollie Bartlett.

  • Bartlett hand-selected the piece for the duchess from her special collection on display at Douglas Reynolds Gallery.

Meghan Markle showed her support for local Canadian artisans while visiting with local organizations earlier this week.

The Duchess of Sussex was photographed wearing a 18K gold necklace with a whale tail-shaped pendant while visiting the organization Justice For Girls. The necklace was a gift from indigenous Canadian artist Hollie Bartlett, a member of the Haisla people whose community is predominantly based in Kitamaat Village on the coast of British Columbia. The piece was handpicked by Bartlett, whose jewelry designs are inspired by contemporary northwest coast native art.

Meghan paired the necklace with a cream knit sweater (which she supposedly wore in an episode of Suits!), dark wash skinny jeans, and brown knee-high boots as she posed with members of Justice For Girls.

Participants in the organization spoke highly of the duchess’ visit and praised her commitment to highlighting injustices for young women, not only within Canada, but also worldwide.

"We were very moved by the duchess visiting us despite terrible weather conditions in Vancouver and her very recent arrival," the co-director of Justice For Girls, Zoe Craig-Sparrow previously told BAZAAR.com. "We were struck by how engaged and informed she was on the issues we discussed, and how quickly and gracefully she put us at ease."

"[Meghan] will bring her commitment and intelligence to the issues she cares about,” continued Craig-Sparrow. “Especially the rights of women and girls, and will use her position to help."
