'Meghan Markle's baby shower was in poor taste,' says royal author

Meghan Markle’s baby shower in New York last month caused a stir for many reasons. There was the A-list guest list, the luxury hotel and the beautiful decor, but it was the expense that raised the most eyebrows from commentators.

Hosted by tennis star Serena Williams and Amal Clooney, the bash reportedly took place at The Mark hotel’s Penthouse Suite, which is believed to set guests back £57,000 per night.

Royal author Anna Pasternak thought it was “in very poor taste.”

Speaking to Yahoo UK‘s ‘The Royal Box,’ she says: “The country is in a state of extreme anxiety and flux, and many people are suffering financially.”

Meghan also travelled to and from the US on a private jet, which reportedly costs around £100,000 each way and was paid for by Amal Clooney.

Private jets emit more carbon than commercial aircraft and Meghan’s decision to fly that way has been viewed as hypocritical by some.

This is especially because Prince Charles, William and Harry are vocal about environmental matters and all have urged the nation to protect the planet.

Pasternak adds: “You can’t have it both ways, I think you cannot on the one hand, say to the people, ‘save the planet,’ and then be revving up a massive carbon footprint going for a lavish baby shower in New York, I don’t think it looks good and I don’t think it’s appropriate.”
