Meghan Markle's Princess Charlotte comments that 'sparked tension' with Kate Middleton

Meghan Markle's harsh comments about Princess Charlotte allegedly left Kate Middleton distraught, further deepening the rift that persists between them.

Despite The Duchess of Sussex finding herself in a similar situation to Kate when she married Prince Harry - an outsider with no aristocratic background joining the Royal family - the two women are said to have found it difficult to form a friendship.

In the lead up to Meghan and Harry's wedding in May 2018, tensions escalated and it was reported at the time that Meghan had made Kate cry over a disagreement about bridesmaid dresses. However, it was later clarified that it was actually Meghan who had been crying and Harry confirmed that Kate had sent flowers as an apology.

But in his book 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors', author Tom Bower adds more fuel to the fire by claiming that Meghan made a negative comparison towards Kate's daughter Charlotte, reports the Express.

Bower's book, which was released in 2022, cites unnamed sources saying Meghan "compared Princess Charlotte unfavourably to her best friend Jessica Mulroney's daughter", named Ivy. This allegation is yet another in a long series which allude to Kate reportedly being reduced to tears in the lead up to Meghan and Harry's wedding day.

Prior to this, the book alleges that Kate was "tired" after the birth of her third child, Prince Louis, who was born in April, just weeks before the wedding, According to MailOnline.

The now-Princess of Wales was reportedly "too fatigued" to argue with Meghan over whether or not her bridesmaids should wear tights, even though Royal protocol suggested they should.

The Duchess of Sussex stood her ground on the decision that her bridesmaids should go without tights, a stance supported by her then-confidante Jessica Mulroney. There was also a clash over the length of Princess Charlotte's dress, which Kate reportedly believed was too short and ill-fitting, which caused Kate to become upset.

However, Meghan Markle addressed the disagreement years later during the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, where she recounted: "She [Kate] was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised. And she bought me flowers."

Meghan recalled the incident before her wedding, saying: "A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining - yes, the issue was correct - about flower girl dresses, and it made me cry, and it really hurt my feelings."

Amidst pre-wedding tensions and family issues, Meghan felt the need for support, stating: "And I thought, in the context of everything else that was going on in those days leading to the wedding, that it didn't make sense to not be just doing whatever everyone else was doing, which was trying to be supportive, knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot."

She clarified the nature of their interaction: "It wasn't a confrontation, and I actually think it's... I don't think it's fair to her to get into the details of that, because she apologised."
