Mel B's husband Stephen Belafonte has denied allegations that he abused and sexually exploited his wife during their nine-year marriage.

The claims follow recent reports that Mel filed for divorce from her husband in December of last year.

According to TMZ, the X Factor Australia judge has been granted a restraining order against Belafonte, ordering him to keep a distance from both her and their children.

In a video obtained by TMZ, Belafonte hit back against the accusations made in the restraining order application – including claims that he physically assaulted Mel, forced her into threesomes and threatened to leak a sex tape.

"I really, really, really – I'm really distraught in my brain [about] how this is going to affect our children, and the depths that she's gone to," he said. "I'm shocked at those allegations and that's what it is."

Following further claims that Belafonte had a gun in the house when he was not supposed to, Stephen responded: "I think someone's trying to set me up to look like a bad guy...

"My house got raided and no one found anything. It's accusation after accusation, but we'll have our day in court."

Referring to their "beautiful children", Belafonte added: "We have beautiful children... they're on social media. Why do this? We were friends two weeks ago.

"I guess someone's making a lot of money off this, mainly the lawyers."

Digital Spy has reached out to Mel B's representative for comment.

In 2014, both Mel and Stephen were forced to deny reports of a violent incident after Mel didn't attend the live final of The X Factor as a judge.

Labelling the rumours "disgusting", Stephen said: "I had nothing to do with hurting my wife. I did not touch Mel. I didn't hit her. I wasn't cheating or anything. There was no girl involved."

Mel spoke out against the allegations at the time, reassuring fans: "For the record my hubby never would lay a hand on me."
