Spice Girl Mel B and her sister Danielle Brown have opened up about ending their 10-year feud following the collapse of Mel’s marriage to Stephen Belafonte.
Appearing on This Morning, Mel B claimed that her ex-husband prevented her from contacting her family, but she and her sister are now “closer than ever”.
“One of the things that happens is you get cut off from friends and family. We were talking at the beginning but not for long,” she said.
Brown added: “A lot of close friends and people who have always been there got pushed to one side. [The family] were the last ones to go. ‘When we got her contact details they would change and you would get a horrible email back.”
On how she got back in contact with her mum and sister, Mel B said that she did “a lot of apologising”.
“I’m on a mission to heal what we’ve been through,” she added. “I lost out on 10 years with my sister and she’s lost out with my kids and I’ve lost out with her kids.”
Brown added: “It’s up and down, it is a roller-coaster. It’s a 10-year gap of no contact at all and a lot’s been said and done but I think we’re good. It’s a process. We’re probably closer now as well.
“My mum is so happy. She’s over the moon just to have all her grandchildren together. There’s only us two. I felt like an only child for 10 years.”
Towards the end of the interview, host Phillip Schofield read a statement from Belafonte, in which he denied ever keeping Mel B apart from her family.
He said: “This whole thing is a fraud. Mel lived and worked in other parts of the world for months at a time. How could I influence who she did and didn’t call? I couldn’t.
“I proved in court documents that Mel had constant contact with her mum and sister and I have other emails and text messages to refute what they are both saying.”
However, Mel B and Brown dismissed his comments as untrue.
