Mel C reignites Little Mix feud: Spice Girls didn't have to be sexy

Following her comments last week slamming Little Mix for their skimpy stage attire Mel C has continued the debate and said she thinks young girls are put under more pressure to be sexy now than they ever were before.

The ‘Wannabe’ hitmaker doesn’t understand why young girls accept being “oversexualised” at a young age.

Speaking in London as part of the AOL Build Series, she said: “In my experience, I wore tracksuits. I never felt that us girls as Spice Girls were never put under any pressure to be sexy.

"My question is why do young girls want to be portrayed in that way? There just seems to be a trend of young people being oversexualised extremely young.”

Okay, sounds reasonable, but…

Last week Mel compared Little Mix to the Spice Girls and said the X Factor band started out being themselves but became too raunchy.

She said: “I love Little Mix. I loved them from The X Factor. I just thought they were so different.

“But they are getting more provocative. To me, they were kind of the closest thing to the Spice Girls we’ve seen.

“They are all gorgeous and great singers. But they weren’t sexy and it’s got more and more that way. I love them – but I just say, ‘Stay you.’”

Jesy Nelson fired back at her comments and Twitter trolls that accused her of dressing like a stripper and sent a clear message that the band won’t cover up, when she wore the above jacket to the Radio 1 Teen Awards on Sunday.

Though it didn’t stop Mel speaking up again, isn’t this debate a bit old and the fact is the band aren’t young girls anymore and have grown up?

We applaud Mel C for trying to support women if they’re being exploited but we think she’s forgetting that pop music is inherently sexy and has always attracted a plethora of stars who flash the flesh including Madonna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Beyoncé.

Little Mix are slaying the charts and their shows no matter what they wear and going by Jesy’s actions, they certainly seem in control of how they dress.
