On Monday, Donald and Melania Trump welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, to the White House for a three day state visit.

After welcoming the couple, they walked to the South Lawn to participate in a tree-planting ceremony to commemorate the visit, which is is the first by a foreign leader since Trump assumed presidency fifteen months ago.

Melania has made sure to up the style stakes for the occasion, firstly, wearing a chic all-black ensemble, complete with a dramatic cape.

Possibly paying homage to her French visitors, the luxury number was by French fashion house Givenchy and is worth $2,790 (around £1,997).

Since entering the White House, the 47-year-old has not been shy of showing off her expensive designer wardrobe.

She sported a £3,675 Erdem gown to ring in the New Year, a metallic $7,995 (35,726) gown by Monique Lhuillier to the White House Historical Association reception and, if you think that's decadent, in 2017 she wore a 3D floral jacket by Dolce & Gabbana to the G7 summit, which cost a jaw dropping $51,500 (£36,890).

For the second day of their visit, the First Lady most definitely worked Parisian chic, as she coordinated with French first lady Brigitte in a flawless all-white ensemble.

The elegant look consisted of a tailored white suit boasting asymmetric detail and a thick faux leather belt, this time by American designer Michael Kors. The jacket alone costs $2,195 (£1,572).

It was Melania's wide-brim hat that stole the show, though. Many were quick to take to Twitter to voice their opinion on the dramatic choice of headgear with many showing their support by referencing it to Beyonce's famous Formation hat, meanwhile others commented: "Melania's hat for President".

Tuesday evening also saw the Trumps' first state dinner take place with the first lady, once again, making sure all eyes were on her as she slipped into a silver, sequin-adorned evening gown.

Paying homage to France, once again, the intricate number was designed by luxury French designer Chanel.

The creation was inspired by a jumpsuit from the fashion house's spring/summer 2018 haute couture collection.

The couture gown may seem extravagent but, for a state occasion, pieces can be donated as a gift to the National Archives.

With one day still left of the French President's visit, we're sure Melania's sartorial choices are only going to get even more impressive.
