Melania Trump's "I don't care" jacket has sparked a wave of angry of memes giving the slogan a makeover.

The First Lady came under fire for wearing the Zara jacket for a flight to Texas where she was visiting a migrant child detention centre.

It followed a wave of criticism for her husband's new zero tolerance immigration policy which has seen parents separated from their children.

Her spokesman denied her wardrobe choice had a "hidden message" but her Donald Trump later tweeted that she was taking a swipe at the "fake news media".

Critics photoshopped their own slogans onto the back of the jacket.

While Jennifer Hassan wrote: "Anyone know what's on the agenda today?

"Yes First Lady, you're meeting with migrant children being held in Texas.

"OK. Can someone find me my "I really don't care jacket."

Jeremy Newberger wrote: "Melania Trump's jacket might as well have well read WOMP WOMP. No class."

Gerard Mulligan said: "Melania’s taste in jackets is as good as her taste in husbands."

While Parker Molloy set up a website called I Really Do care to help raise money for immigrant children.

The First Lady used her visit to the immigration centre to say she wanted to reunite children with their families "as quickly as possible" following her husband's dramatic policy U-turn around the treatment of illegal immigrants.

Ms Trump is believed to have played a crucial role in persuading her husband to reverse his highly controversial policy of ordering border officials to separate children from their parents while they await prosecution.

Whilst at the centre she made a rare public speech in which she said: “We all know that the children here have been separated from their families.

"I'd like to ask you how I can help these children to reunite with their families as quickly as possible.”

She also thanked staff “for your heroic work that you do every day and what you do for those children."
