Legendary Hollyoaks star Will Mellor has revealed that Kiara Mellor, who debuted on the soap this week as young Kathleen-Angel, is in fact his niece.
The actor played James 'Jambo' Bolton in the Channel 4 show in the late '90s before most recently moving on to Coronation Street.
"So proud of my little niece Kiara! On @hollyoaksofficial where it all began for me!" posted Will.
Kiara appeared in Hollyoaks village in Wednesday's (May 19) first-look E4 episode when Nana McQueen (Diane Langton) picked her up from the airport.
Her character – daughter of Theresa McQueen (Jorgie Porter) and the late Calvin Valentine (Ricky Whittle), and previously played by Nieve Grandison – has been living in Spain since we last saw her in 2016.
Now 10 years old, Kathleen-Angel is back to stay with her mother Theresa, who returned to the soap after a leave of absence in October to coincide with the show's 25th anniversary.
According to her on-screen mum Jorgie, Kiara has quickly stepped into her role as a McQueen family member: "I just have the best fun with Kiara – she's amazing. I've only done one scene with her so far but I really want to work with her more."
Jorgie also commented on her passion for working with children and the limitation that COVID-19 has brought on that, saying: "I love working with kids anyway, but because of COVID, we're not allowed them on set that much.
"Working with kids is really fun because they just look up to you like you know everything! I'm like: 'I don't know anything, but I'm going to pretend that I do!'"
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
